About

Slí Cholmcille (The St Columba Way) allows people to follow in the footsteps of Colm Cille and the medieval communities that shaped the history of Ireland and Scotland.

In the time of Colm Cille, and of those who that came after him, travel was slow and dangerous, but communications and relationships were very real. The Slí will help you to get to know areas within Ireland or Scotland, or to travel between the two countries and add to new communication and relationships.

At present, there are nine trails on the Slí. Some are suitable for walking, but a car, bicycle or public transport will be necessary for others. In Donegal there is a movement to make the Slí into camino-type walk in the manner of the Way of St. James in Spain, El Camino de Santiago.

The Slí is brought together by Foras na Gaeilge in Ireland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig in Scotland in partnership with other organisations whose logos can be found here. As a project, the Slí is changing and growing. This website is also developing, and it will be added to on an ongoing basis.
